Ahara sambhavam vastu rogascha ahara sambhavah”

Chraka Samhita

Pareekshya hitam ashneeyad deho hi ahara sambhavah

                                                                        Chraka Samhita

We are what we eat and all the diseases are also the outcome of our faulty food habits.
So one should take diet only after meticulous evaluation. The Indian sages of yore used
to live healthily for a long time because they were aware of the utmost importance of diet on
our health. Diet, in Ayurveda is not just mere combination and preparations of foodstuffs,
rather it is a comprehensive concept aiming towards hita – long-term benefits of the user,
unlike contemporary food habits, which gives sukha- temporary happiness.

We are a complex of physiological systems functioning in a definite harmony to remain healthy. Diet is the primary input to maintain and promote this harmonious functioning. Therefore, our food has to be carefully selected and planned basing upon various variables like place, time, our constitution, etc.

Against the backdrop of contemporary perspective there can not be second opinion that the food habits have become awful. We invariably take rich but nutrition deficient foods resulting in overall poor health of the population. The best part of ayurvedic food habits is that it attributes all our health problems, directly or indirectly, exclusively to wrong food habits and thus logically envisages the initial remedies of diseases through modified diet only without any medication.
