Ayurveda is known as a tantra as it is not merely a health care science
rather it is a comprehensive way of life with an ultimate aim of
providing health and happiness to the humanity. This eternal spring of
knowledge is an outcome of thousand years of
observations by the erudite sages of ancient India backed by scientific
evidences. Health,
in Ayurveda is considered as not mere absence of diseases or just
properly functioning physiological systems, but it is a state of
harmonious existence of the Body-Mind-Soul complex with the macro
cosmos. Therefore, any slight discord in the tuning of this harmony will
lead to miseries manifested physically or mentally. Thus, Ayurveda
advocates holistic approach to healthcare involving both the individual
and his/her environment.
The unique richness of Ayurveda lies with its concept of treating the
individual as a whole
entity rather than a mere conglomeration of anatomical & physiological
entities. So
Ayurveda tries to help the person fight against the disease causing
factors through drugs
or processes unlike the modern system of medicine, where the drug itself
fights the invader.
So when one comes out of the disease state through Ayurveda, it also
simultaneously ensures better defense mechanism to prevent recurrence of
the disease.
Ayurveda considers health as a road which has to be constructed and
maintained regularly
by careful measures to prolong the life span. It says that like we give
more oil and protect
the flame from wind to have more light for longer time from an oil lamp,
we should provide
inputs in the form of food and protect the body from external stressors
to have a healthy and
long life.
